Thursday, January 31, 2008 ![]() Let me tell you, I had a horrible time getting to Miami! I was set to leave Chicago the morning of January 30th at 8:30 am. Problem… a huge storm was heading our way that would cause an “instant freeze”. I left for the 90 mile trip and it took me 5 hours. 50 mile an hour winds, blizzard conditions, and just ick. So I arrive in Miami and I am sweating because it is so hot. What a change! Now onto the good stuff. Internet Retailer always throws an educational conference that goes above and beyond and this time is no exception. The day started out with the Vice President of Creative and User Experience for Walmart.com. She spoke in length in regards to the redesign that Walmart has done to their website to make it more user friendly. Debbie Kristofferson also pointed out that they did quite a bit of A/B testing to find out what customers wanted when it came to their item pages. The next speaker was Lauren Freedman, President of the e-tailing group. By far, the BEST speech of the day. She wrote a book called “It’s Just Shopping” and I am anxious to get home and read it. If the book is anything like what I saw today, it will be amazing! I plan on giving you all the juicy details later when I have more time but let me tell you something that blew my mind. Are you ready? 52% of shoppers spend 6 minutes or more on the product page when purchasing online SIX MINUTES! I see way too many companies not paying enough attention to their item pages. They do not even take the time to rewrite the product descriptions. Yet, customers are spending SIX MINUTES on an item page! WOW Ready for another shocker learned today? Ice.com recently started adding video to some of their product pages instead of just the usual boring “image”. Those pages had an increase in conversion rates of 50%!! FIFTY PERCENT INCREASE IN CONVERSION RATES! That speaks volumes! Alright I gotta go for now, but I will be back very soon to give you more details! The email was sent to all stores that have been identified as one using Yahoo’s functionality for website forms. Most customers were very confused by this email and we want to help straighten things out. First, this change does NOT affect your shopping cart. Let me say that again. The email you received does not affect your shopping cart what so ever. What does it affect on your website? ~Contact Us Forms ~Newsletter Sign-Up If you have any or all of the above located in your store, you will have to make changes to the code in order for it to continue working properly.
