Tuesday, November 28, 2006 WOW this is huge. Finally we have some answers on whether or not Google wants unique meta descriptions for each and every page on your store and guess what...they do! There has always been this confusion...yes Google wants them...no they do not want meta descriptions. We have ALWAYS said to put them in. Yahoo is one that has always wanted these unique meta tags to get indexed properly. So why not do it? Now you have even more reason for giving each and every page in your store a unique meta tag description....Google wants it too! Google's Vanessa Fox recently responded in a Google Group post... Unique content is the only way to go....yet this is where most store owners never make the journey to. When you are adding hundreds (if not thousands) if products into your store, this can seem like a very time consuming task. But store owners most realize that this is as important as setting up your merchant account to accept credit cards. Remember, you are in this business for the long run. Why spend all your money to go out of business 6 months later? Real people make real money online with ecommerce stores and you can too. It will not happen overnight. It will not be easy. It IS possible. We found a great article about duplicate content. Just a few snippets... "Dup content issue #1; reusing manufacturers product description is a common issue" "Why do search engines care about duplication? User experience, and they dont want to show the same content over and over again for the same query. An other issue is if they only crawl the dup content, they wont have any differentiate with other content (but this is less of an issue). The most important thing is to show the content of the originating source. Where does Yahoo! get rid of dups?
