Last Tuesday I brought you some really cool tools you can use to find out where your customers are clicking and reading and everything in between.

Well, 3 days later Google drops analytics overlay and instead we get this awesome in-page analytics.

If you haven't started using it yet... let's log into Google and start using it right now!

Once inside, look on the left go and click on content. Then on the right, you will see Click Patterns - In-Page Analytics Beta.

This is really fun. Open up a new tab and go to your live website. Google Analytics follows you. Whatever page you click on, Google tells you:
  • How many page views you have had
  • How many unique views
  • Time on Page
  • Bounce Rate
  • View where people are clicking
  • and much much more
So let's play with this on a new blog I created to share my quilting adventures with the world.

The Wedding Quilt I made for Dusten was were popular so let's see what happened when people came to this page.


70% clicked to go to my home page and 4.3% clicked to learn about the giveaways.

Cool right?

So how can you use this information?

Let's say you have on your home page the following layout:

You learn that Special 2 is not clicked on at all and the purple product is only clicked on 1% of the time while the other products are clicked on 9% of the time.

Now you have data to make decisions!

Change out Special 2 to something else that will get customers to click and switch out the purple product with another feature item that your customers are looking for.

Using Filters
The filters can really tell you a lot about your traffic! For instance, let's take a look at our top navigation bar. 

Let's take a look at what we have going on.





Only 4.2% are clicking on our Portfolio link.

Now let's filter those results!

We chose to look at just our visitors coming in using keywords having to do with yahoo store design.








Now the Portfolio link is clicked on 23%. Different priorities for different keyword phrases.


What can you do with this information?

What keywords drive the most traffic? What keywords drive the most revenue to your store?

Where are those customers clicking and what's important to them?
