If you haven't heard by now, Oprah joined Twitter.

This boosted Twitter by 43%

"Hitwise clickstream data reveals that on April 17, 37% of visits to Twitter.com were new visitors (as opposed to returning). "

I realize people are concerned with all of the celebrities joining Twitter and what it will do to the "Twitter Community."

However, let's look at it this way.

We joined Twitter to connect with other people.

We joined Twitter to communicate with other people.

Businesses use Twitter to communicate with customers.

If more of your customers are joining Twitter because of Oprah, AWESOME!

Use her coming on board as a way to get more of your clients/customers to join Twitter as well!

Remember, this is what we want. We want the ability to communicate directly with our visitors.

That is why WE joined Twitter. So forget how they got to Twitter...just be glad they are there.

You may have noticed we posted a very strange message on our blog Saturday.

It was called "This is to prove how quickly we can get into google"

You see, we were in the middle of the Build New Store in a Weekend Event. I was explaining the wonderful and amazing things that you can do with a blog.

I also explained how quickly Google picks up our blog.

So we made a small wager :)

I had to prove that Google would pick up our blog post in under 2 hours or all of my attendees would get a HUGE discount.

So who won?

Well, technically all of us.

The short and strange post was picked up in under 2 hours and I still gave everyone the discount.

Although I think the funniest thing that happened was watching some of the other Yahoo Store developers create their own testing and blog posts soon after on this topic.

So thank you to the other developers for doing this experiment with us and helping store owners learn more about blogging and SEO!

And as Paul Harvey would say...

Thanks to Twitter, I came across a true gem of information that I
know you will love.

It is written by Paul Graham many years ago, but still has
very valuable advice for Yahoo Store Owners.

By the way, Paul Graham co-created Viaweb, which was then
purchased by Yahoo, which is now Yahoo Merchant Solutions.

He offers 10 Secrets of Selling Online, but I have to tell
you...#1 was my favorite!!

"If there is a single secret to selling online, it is to work hard.
Hard work is the secret to succeeding in almost anything, but it is
especially important on the Web.

It's true what they say: the Web levels the playing field. A high
school can make a better Web site than a large industrial company.
On a level playing field, how big you are matters less than how
hard you work.

There are millions of consumers out there, but lots of other Web
sites are competing for their attention. So you can't just build an
online store and walk away from it. You have to work hard to draw
visitors to your site, work hard to create a site that those
visitors want to buy from, and work hard to give those buyers such
good service that they and their friends will buy again in the
future."

I just found out that all of our videos have been pulled from YouTube for violation of copyright.

Our videos show Yahoo! Store owners how to add products, update informational pages, process orders, and everything else in between.

All the videos on our website....not working.

So today is a reminder on how to turn lemons into lemonade!

While we wait for YouTube to pull their... well...

Let me try that again.

While we wait for things to get straightened out with YouTube, this gives us an amazing opportunity to update our video pages.

Instead of our videos being "squished" into a tiny YouTube box, we can make our video dimensions larger.

This is like upgrading from a 19" to a big screen TV!

This will make the our videos that much easier for you to see!!!

So please excuse our mess for just a day or two while we make some lemonade :)

For Yahoo Store owners, being able to get the Google Analytics code to work correctly was a major pain in the *&#.

In fact, most store owners had to use a third party tool in order to accurately track if a customer converted into a sale.

I am extremely happy to report that Google has made this MUCH easier for you.

Download this Google Adwords Conversion Tracking Guide and make sure to pay attention to Page 8.

It specifically tells you how to set up Google Tracking code with Yahoo Stores.

If you do not have this set up, DO IT NOW.

If you have Yahoo Web Analytics and think you should not use Google Analytics... WRONG

Remember, you are looking for trends and data so that you can make informed decisions.

The more data and information you have, the better decisions YOU can make.

Now make sure you have your code installed properly :)

Paula Abdul Has Passion


Stay with me here... I promise it is worth it.

If you have EVER watched American Idol, there is one thing you must have noticed.

When Paula Abdul loves what she hears, she gets up and dances!!

The other judges around her will sit and listen to the music.

Not Paula.

She does not care who watches or what they think.

She loves the music and she just wants to dance dance dance!

She stands up proud and enjoys the music. Paula dances with the beat and enjoys every single second.

Imagine if we could all feel that way about what we do?

Imagine if every time you went to work you felt so happy that you just wanted to dance and you did not care who was watching.

So find your passion. Do what you love to do. Then you can be like Paula Abdul too and not care who sees you dancing all day long.

I have to tell you, I have been dreaming of this moment for a VERY long time.

It amazes me how much we can accomplish when we simply create a "To Do" list.

Instead of wandering around aimlessly wondering what you will do next, you can simply look at your list and get to work!

  • You can prioritize your "To Do" list and make sure that your important tasks are done first.

  • You can set goals for yourself and stay on task using the "To Do" list.

  • You will become more productive.


  • You will become more efficient.

Here are my personal tips for getting the most out of your "To Do" list.

  • Go to the bookstore and purchase a really nice journal to write your daily "To Do's" in. I have found that people love to write inside of something that they feel is special. They want to use it every day (yes even the men in my office)


  • I prefer to write my daily tasks by hand the night before. This way I can think about how I will complete the tasks as I am laying in bed.


  • Write down all of your tasks for the day. Phone calls, appointments, even daily things you need to do. This will help you to prioritize your day.


  • As you complete each task, mark it off by highlighting it with a pink or blue highlighter. The bright color will look amazing at the end of the day and really help you to feel like you accomplished a lot.


  • If you want to take advantage of the latest and greatest technology for creating "To Do" Lists (Remember the Milk is AWESOME), you can still use the techniques above. Print your list every morning and have it next to you on your desk as you work.
Work hard on completing your list each day and you will become more efficient and productive in no time!
