Free LLCSo this last week I have been in bed quite a bit sick and have been unable to post to our blog as much as I would like and let me apologize for that.

However, I did come across an awesome deal while I was helping a friend of mine set up a LLC.

I used MyCorporation to set up my Corporation years ago and loved their service. So when I went to their site to get the LLC, they had a special going on.

You can get a Free INC or LLC. I thought no way. So we signed up my friend, used the coupon on the site they give you, and all we had to pay for was the state fees for filing.

That was it.

We have been helping a lot of people start new Yahoo Stores since January 1st and if you are looking to incorporate your business, this is not a bad deal at all!!

They are also giving you a free copy of Quickbooks Simple Business as well.

If you aren't sure whether or not you need to incorporate, check their website. They have a full learning center.

They also help you if you want to do any trademark or copyright protection for your logos or domain names.

I just read a fantastic article in last month's edition of Internet Retailer about giving your product photos new life without breaking the bank.

The photos of your products can literally make or break sales when it comes to your online store.

Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words!

Not everyone can afford to take their products to a professional photographer and have their products professional photographed.

When I found out about the Bling Your Product Shots to Life software, I was really excited!

First, the software is less than $30.00.

Second, they provide excellent tutorials on their website on how to use their software.

Third, they provide excellent tips for taking photographs of your products.

Fourth, any store owner can use this software to create professional looking images of their products!

Fifth, the software was created by the same people who created Fluid Mask, except this software is for store owners who don't want to take forever learning Adobe Photoshop AND just want to create great pictures!

With so much going on in our economy, online search behavior has shown dramatic change.

According to a press release today by comScore, among the most notable increases were searches relating to the deteriorating job market:
  • “unemployment” (up 206 percent to 8.2 million searches)
  • “unemployment benefits” (up 247 percent to 748,000 searches)
Terms relating to personal asset situations, including “mortgage” (up 72 percent to 7.8 million searches), “bankruptcy” (up 156 percent to 2.6 million searches), and “foreclosure” (up 67 percent to 1.4 million searches) also grew strongly.

However, Americans are looking for ways to save money, as evidenced by the increase in the number of searches for “coupons” (up 161 percent to 19.9 million) and “discount” (up 26 percent to 7.9 million).

**Yahoo Store Tip**

To create a coupon in your Yahoo Store, go into your store manager and click on the Coupon Manager link on the bottom left side of your screen. Then click the create coupon button.

Let's face it. You can't go anywhere anymore without hearing the word, "Twitter."

Twitter is the third-biggest social-media site in the country.

Yet there are so many store owners still scratching their head wondering,

"What exactly is Twitter and how does it work?"

I came across this awesome video that explains how Twitter works and absolutely loved it!! I hope you will too :)

I see the same questions come up quite a bit when it comes to Twitter.
  • Should I follow everyone who follows me?
  • Should I only follow some people?
  • Should I only follow people that are in my industry?
Before I go into the answer, have you ever heard of the phrase "Six Degree of Separation?"

Wikipedia explains:

"If a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is no more than six "steps" away from each person on Earth."

I learned this lesson from my mother (aka Rene). Standing in line anywhere, we can start talking to somebody and find a link between us and them. The more you talk with someone, the more things you will find that you have in common.

Most people write this off to, "Wow, what a small world."

When in reality, it comes back to 6 degrees of separation.

Let's get back to Twitter. When I first started out on Twitter, I was very picky about who I would follow and who I would not follow. I wanted to make sure that it was someone "worthy" of following.

I was wrong.

Every person is worthy of following for one reason or another.

Now, I follow every single person that follows me. In fact, I have it automated so that I do not miss one single person!

People who I thought I would never have anything in common with, have now become friends.

People who I thought were so very distant from my world, are now neighbors.

Have I connected with all the people I follow?

Not yet. I hope that one day I will in one form or another.

How do I keep up with all the "noise" of so many?

I use the latest tools available. Tweetdeck allows me to make multiple columns. The people I follow go through what I like to call... Stages

At first, they are under the column of "All Friends"

As time goes on, I begin seeing their tweets and when someone stands out... I put them under a new column.
  • Friends
  • Family
  • Associates
  • SEO
  • Ecommerce
  • News
  • etc
This helps me to filter the messages that I want to see, yet I can still see the other tweets as well. I am always scanning the tweets from "All Friends" and always find someone that I want to learn more about.

Next week our new e-book, "Ecommerce and Twitter - Increasing Sales One Tweet At a Time," will explain this all in more detail so stay tuned!

In the meantime, go ahead and follow. You will find new and exciting friends every day :)

Mike Ober from Yahoo Small Business has posted a fantastic article, "The Twitter Train of Social Ecommerce"

Mike mentions that Dell has already proven that Twitter works for them, after producing over $1M on sale alerts and now offering exclusive deals to their 11,000+ followers.

However, Dell is not the only business to find success via Twitter.

Amazon asks Twitter users to Tweet a book title or ISBN number, and they are sent a reply with the average price range on Amazon at that moment for the product in question.

Zappos knows the importance of social networking. Check out their page which shows their employees that Twitter, company info on Twitter, and even people that mention the name Zappos in their Tweet (Twitter Message).

Yahoo Store CleanAirGardening uses Twitter to keep in touch with customers, answer questions, and much more.

How can your store take advantage of Twitter to increase sales? As Mike Ober explains:

"The open nature of the Twitter platform allows others to build cool applications, opening the door for you to create Twitter Coupons to begin your social media marketing campaigns, right now. The best part? The cost is your time, for now at least."

Next week we will be releasing our new e-book, "Ecommerce and Twitter - Increasing Sales One Tweet At a Time," which will explain how to sign up with Twitter, Twitter Terminology, Twitter Tools, Twitter Tips, and much much more!!

Make sure you are following me on Twitter for the latest updates!

Just wanted to let you guys know that I am still here and I am very sorry for not posting the last few days. I had a MAJOR computer crash.

You see, I have been working from home again quite a bit. Working from home, everything is nice and quiet and I can easily create videos and e-books. As you may remember, my New Year's resolution was to create more education for our store owners and moving my office to a nice quiet place helps!

I am only 1.6 miles away from the office, which is a nice perk!!

So anyway, I decide to move my desk here instead of buying a new one. I LOVE my desk!! Nice and roomy :)

We moved the desk, start putting computers into place (I am a geek with more than 1 computer on my desk), and my main computer doesn't start up. Ummm... help!

I have been holding off replacing my computer because I hate having to transfer and reinstall everything. Fate had other plans *laughing*

So yesterday I ran to Best Buy and grabbed a new computer. With 8GB of RAM, I will have plenty of power for creating new and exciting things!

Still installing everything, but will be back up and writing VERY soon!!

Thanks for your patience and talk to you soon!

Most store owners use the product descriptions that are given to them by their dropshipper or by the product manufacturer. Unfortunately, this will not help you to rank #1 in the search engines.

Check out a post I wrote yesterday for Practical Ecommerce called "How To Avoid Duplicate Content"

You will find a strategy that you can implement today to fix the duplicate content problem!

Today I wanted to show you a video that was created along with Worldwide Brands Marketing Director Colette Marshall. Since creating unique and relevant content is one of the most important aspects of search engine optimization, this video discussed in more detail:

  • Connection between keywords
  • Page content
  • Relevance in building your Yahoo! Store.

Many people learned about Hulu for the first time during the Super Bowl. Clever advertising followed up with Alec Baldwin and you have yourself a winner.

Watching videos online has increased to a record 14.3 billion in one month according to comScore. This represents an increase of 13 percent versus the previous month.

Although YouTube led the growth charge, accounting for 49 percent of the incremental gain in videos viewed versus November, Hulu is showing some interesting statistics.

* The duration of the average online video was 3.2 minutes.

* The duration of the average online video viewed at Hulu was 10.1 minutes, higher than any other video property in the top ten.

A few more interesting statistics:

* The average online video viewer watched 309 minutes of video, or more than 5 hours.

* 98.9 million viewers watched 5.9 billion videos on YouTube.com (59.2 videos per viewer).

* 48.7 million viewers watched 367 million videos on MySpace.com (7.6 videos per viewer).

* 78.5 percent of the total U.S. Internet audience viewed online video.

Did you read that last line? Let me repeat that.

* 78.5 percent of the total U.S. Internet audience viewed online video.

WOW! Do you use videos on your website to attract new customers?

I had the pride and privilege of heading over to Worldwide Brands in Florida several months ago. While I was there, we created several videos about Yahoo Stores and SEO.

You all know how much I love talking about those two things separately and when I combine them, I get super excited!

I know. I am a geek. What can I say?

Check out the video below with Colette Marshall, Worldwide Brands Marketing Director.

You finally decide to update the look of your website.

What colors will you use?

How can you find other colors that will match up?

Try out this website called ColorBlender.com

Don't forget that certain colors can bring about certain emotions:

Red is the color for passion, lust, love, strength and power. It stimulates metabolism, appetite and masculinity. In web design it can be used to make an image look larger and closer but using this color in large areas should be avoided. Combinations of Red and Green or Blue and Red are not recommended because both wears out the eyes.

Romance, friendship, femininity and energy are some of the words often associated with the color Pink. On the other hand, Orange gives a sense of warmth, balance, vibrancy and intensity. In web design, it is useful for highlighting key elements.

Black signifies power, elegance, evil, sadness and fear. It adds mystery to a website but can also give a depressing or heavy feeling. This color is recommended for websites catering to art and photography since it complements other colors. The opposite of Black is White, it represents purity, simplicity, cleanliness, light, positivity and everything good. Similar to black choosing white as a site's background is highly advisable because it also highlights other color.

Gray often communicates gloominess and old age while Silver is sleek and modern. A combination of Silver and other color can be used to create a high-tech look. The color Blue is associated with water and gives a calming effect. It is also the color of technology. Green represents nature, money, health and harmony. It is easy on the eyes and useful for sites with natural products.

Lastly, Yellow signifies intelligence, happiness, glory and hope. The advantages of using this color are it stimulates mental activity and gets attention. Designers should be careful in dealing with this color because wrong or overuse of such can promote anxiety.

The Super Bowl every year drives me crazy. If it is a good game, you cannot leave for a break during the game. You certainly can't wait for a commercial either.

This year the commercials felt different.

First, where was Intel, Mac, Fed Ex, UPS, etc? Many companies who normally advertise during Super Bowl were nowhere to be found.

Second, it seemed that the quality of videos were not so great this year. I had no problem remembering which one was my favorite. Previous years I had an entire list!!

My fave's where from Hulu, Doritos, and of course the E-trade Baby.

Which one was your favorite?

Peter Borders, CEO of MediaTrust, posted a fun link on Facebook yesterday that I had to share with all of you.

JPGFun is a website that you upload your picture to and select several different effects.

The result is a fun and unique picture of you!

You can even create a picture of yourself on the front page of your favorite magazine!

Just be careful when you go on this website, it is kind of addictive :)
