This was an excellent question brought up to me via Twitter.

Since you are using dropshippers, you do not have the product in hand to create videos for the products. However, there is an easy solution!

Depending on your budget, every week place an order with your dropshipper. Start with purchasing items that you know will sell right away.

By purchasing the items you accomplish 3 tasks:

  1. You will receive the products so that you can create the videos.
  2. You can double check how your dropshipper is doing and see how your customer receives these hot selling items.
  3. You now have the product in hand next time someone places an order.

Yesterday we told you about Clean Air Gardening. A Yahoo Store who really gets "it"

Lars recently conducted a fantastic interview with Practical Ecommerce where he discusses the lessons he learned along the way.

“We don't really mess with super technical approaches to SEO. We just generate lots of unique, well-written content about our products. We spend a lot of time writing unique product descriptions."

In the article he discusses search engine optimization, pay per click, marketing, expenses, employees, social media, and everything in between.

It is wonderful to see a store owner who is so open and honest about what they do and how they do it. Definitely someone we can all learn from!

I would like to take a moment to introduce you Clean Air Gardening.

This is a Yahoo Store who really gets "it"

Now what is "it?"

Yesterday I wrote a post called, "What if SEO died?"

I asked you to think about your visitors. What do your visitors want? What does your visitor need? How can you help the person that is visiting your website?

Visit Clean Air Gardening and immediately you will see that all of your questions are answered.

However, they do not stop there.

On Twitter this morning, I noticed a tweet from Clean Air stating:

"@GreenSmith Indeed. We have cricket poop, worm poop, chicken poop and even bat poop. And video!"

I had to click on the link to learn more about the poop. On the page I found great information, a helpful video, and product links for purchasing the product.

Then I started looking some more at Clean Air's Twitter page. They are offering advice and information via social networking.

This company gets "IT"

It is no wonder their business or products were featured in New York Times, Money Magazine, National Geographic, and several other well known national publications.

I wrote a blog this morning for Practical Ecommerce called, "Your Business Can Survive."

If you want a poster child website to look at that is surviving, you now know where to look!

As soon as I saw this website, I thought of Arnold Schwarzenegger and I have to say this website name in my best Schwarzenegger voice (yes it's awful).

The website....

Now if you want to have fun with the name you also can grab your best Schwarzenegger voice and say, "It's da Buttonator"

Anyway, I was reading this book last night about Web 2.0 and it mentioned a website that people can go to and create buttons.

Many store owners want to create unique Add To Cart images, but have no clue how.

Well, now you can give it a try at the Buttonator website.

You can create buttons that look large, small, rounded, square, or like tabs.

You can change the font and add icons as well.

Did I mention this handy dandy tool is free?

A great little website for the do-it-yourself store owner!

I have given this topic a lot of thought lately as search engines are becoming more personalized for the end user.

One day, search engine optimization could be completely dead. If you think about it, SEO is already on life support.

No longer can you throw together a bunch of words on a website repeating your favorite keyword over and over again. Your visitors don't want this and neither do the search engines.

So what is it that search engines want for your site to be number one?

Wrong thinking.

What do your visitors want? What does your visitor need? How can you help the
person that is visiting your website?

If the person entering your website is in need of a product and you have the
product, then let's think about what else your customer needs and how you can
help them.

  1. Image - Show them the product. Give them alternative views of the
product. Give them up close views of the product. If they can not put their
hands on it physically, they will want to know what it looks like.

  2. Video - Create a video that shows them the product, how it works, what
makes it unique, and be honest.

  3. Reviews - Give an honest review of the product. Compare it to other
products. Let your customers review the product as well.

  4. Description - Write about the product. Who, what, when, why, where, and
how is a good place to start.

  5. Cross-Sell - Are there other products that can possibly help this
visitor when they purchase this product?

If you address all of the above issues:

  • You will build customer trust

  • You will increase your conversion rates

  • You will be 100% relevant about the product

  • Your customer will stay longer, shop longer, and find what they need
which shows the search engines that you are a reputable site.

  • You will naturally start ranking higher for this product

Remember, focus on your customer and the search engines will follow, whether
SEO lives or dies.

Head over to YouTube and watch a few videos. Sometimes you will hear some background music as someone talks. Sometimes you will hear a boy or a girl who loves a song that their favorite singer sang and they want everyone to hear their version. Sometimes you find a channel created by a band for their fans to find their videos.

Take Metallica for instance. My son loves their music. Me... a little too harsh. However, they created a special page on YouTube for their fans to view their videos.

Then Warner Music Group wanted any and all videos using their music off YouTube, even if it is a little girl singing her favorite song.

How does this affect store owners?

We all know the value of creating videos for your website. Videos help to increase your conversion rates.

If you have created videos using background music, you need to go back and check them out.

Are you using an artist under Warner Music? Wikipedia has a list of music groups and just giving it a quick glance... wow that is a lot of artists.

If you are, you risk the chance of either your video being pulled off completely or your entire video being muted.

You can have music with your videos. You just have to make sure you are not breaking any copyright issues.

There is a website called Creative Commons that allows you to search and find music for your videos. If you are using your videos for commercial purposes, be sure to check the box stating so in order to find music that you are legally able to use.

Image001One of the coolest things I like about my IPhone is my Google App. When I do a search inside from Google App, it starts to pull up results before I am done typing. Most times it hits the nail on the head right away and I get what I need immediately. LOVE IT!!

Now there is a new search engine called LeapFish that does the same thing and you can search via Google, Yahoo, or MSN.

LeapFish, a multi-dimensional search engine that combines the best of the web in a single search, recently announced the release of its new click-free search interface that delivers search results as you type. The brand new search engine that captures not just relevancy but also the variety of the web, now offers one of the world's fastest search services with instantaneous results as each character of a search term is entered.

So I started playing around with LeapFish and found some other really cool stuff to play with.

First, go do a search for something. You will see the natural rankings first and then blogs that are relevant below the natural listings.

Second, look over on the right side of your screen.

Third, depending on the search... you will see News, Videos, Images, Yahoo Answers, and Shopping.

This really puts everything all together on one page saving you tons of time!!

Ok next....

Fourth, click on See More under the Videos

Fifth, place your mouse over a video.

Cool huh?? You can just move your mouse around and it will start and stop depending on where your mouse is.

Here is a short video with more information, but I say go play with it yourself and let me know what you thought about it.

Also, check out the LeapFish Blog to learn a little more about how it all works.
